Alex Cooper to Make Acting Debut in Colleen Hoover’s ‘Verity’ Film

The Call Your Daddy host will play herself and interview Anne Hathaway’s character on a fictional episode of her podcast

Alex Cooper is making her movie debut in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover‘s thriller novel, Verity, this fall. In the upcoming movie, Cooper will play herself and interview Verity Crawford (played by Anne Hathaway) in a fictionalized episode of Call Her Daddy.

The trailer for Verity was unveiled at CinemaCon on Wednesday. Verity follows writer Lowen Ashleigh (played by Dakota Johnson) who is scouted to ghostwrite the remainder of a book series by Crawford (Hathaway), who cannot finish it due to a cryptic accident. During the process, Ashleigh discovers a hidden manuscript that reveals ominous secrets about Crawford. Verity will also star Josh Hartnett. It arrives in theaters on Oct. 2.

Three of Hoover’s books have already been adapted for the screen; Reminders of Him, Regretting You, and most notably It Ends With Us, her most popular book and whose adaptation starred Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. The latter movie led to a fiery (and ongoing) legal battle between its two costars: Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment, intimidation, and sought $160 million in damages from an alleged “retaliation campaign.” Baldoni then countersued her, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and her publicist for $400 million alleging libel. Most recently, 10 of Lively’s 13 claims were dismissed. The parties head to court in May over the remaining claims.

Cooper has separately been making waves over her ongoing feud with influencer Alix Earle in which she claims Earle has been making “passive-aggressive reposts” about her. “Just say what you gotta say about me,” Cooper said in a TikTok. “There’s no NDA. No one is stopping you. Stop hiding behind other people and just say it yourself. What’s the beef?” Earle was previously part of Cooper’s company Unwell Productions, but left last February; she told The Wall Street Journal it was “a little bit of a hot mess” last May.
