Eugene Mirman Says He’s ‘On the Mend’ Following Terrifying Car Crash

“I am extraordinarily thankful to the heroic people that pulled me from the car,” Mirman wrote to fans. “I am thankful beyond words to be here and doing relatively alright, all things considered”

Four days after a terrifying car crash in Bedford, New Hampshire, that sent him to the hospital, comedian and Bob’s Burgers voice actor Eugene Mirman has broken his silence in a post to Instagram.

“Thank you so much for all the well wishes, love and kind messages from friends and strangers,” he wrote. “I am extraordinarily thankful to the heroic people that pulled me from the car and to the warm, kind and talented staff at the hospital that cared for me and got me on the mend! I am thankful beyond words to be here and doing relatively alright, all things considered.”

“I don’t have my phone, so haven’t been online much,” he added. “I do not recommend my method of decreasing screen-time. If you’re a friend who sent a kind, loving message, you should know that it was hard to not respond with, ‘I’d love to be on your podcast.’ I love you all and please take care of yourselves, Eugene.”

It was paired with a photo of a bandaged Mirman holding up a painting that reads “Life Is An Adventure.”

Mirman is lucky to be alive following his crash into the Bedford Toll Plaza on F.E. Everett Turnpike in New Hampshire. His car burst into flames, and he was pulled out by witnesses, and coincidentally, the security detail of New Hampshire governor Kelly Ayotte. He was transported to the hospital with “serious injuries,” but they don’t seem to be quite as as serious as people feared considering the reassuring tone of his message to fans.

The comedian is best known today for his longstanding role of Gene Belcher on the Fox animated series Bob’s Burgers, which has run for over 300 episodes across 16 seasons. But he’s had an active career in comedy for 25 years, with credits on Flight of the Concords, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and the 2022 Fletch reboot Confess, Fletch.
