The nominees for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced this morning, July 8.
Actors and recent Emmy winners Jeff Hiller and Liza Colón-Zayas will reveal the nominees, while Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego will host the show. The nominations ceremony will be live-streamed starting at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT.
Both Colón-Zayas and Hiller have won Emmys in the past couple of years. Colón-Zayas picked up the prize for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy for her turn in The Bear in 2024, while Hiller won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy for Somebody Somewhere in 2025.
As for who’s in the running at the Emmys this year, The Pitt will look to repeat its Outstanding Drama Series victory in 2025. But the medical drama will face competition from drama newcomers like Pluribus and Task, as well as other favorites like Slow Horses, Stranger Things, and The Diplomat.
Meanwhile, the race in the comedy categories is somewhat wide open since last year’s big winner, The Studio, hasn’t released a second season yet. That said, there are two likely frontrunners: Hacks, a previous Outstanding Comedy Series winner, which just aired its last season; and Widow’s Bay, the breakthrough Apple TV+ show that just wrapped its celebrated first season. Other likely contenders include The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking, and Abbott Elementary.
And in limited series, the second season of Lee Sung Jin’s anthology series Beef will likely get a look, as will Ryan Murphy’s latest, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. Other favorites from the past year include DTF St. Louis, Half Man, The Beast in Me, and All Her Fault.
The 78th Emmy Awards will take place Sept. 14, with Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay serving as host.
